Packaging Engineer

Job Purpose:

Support new product introductions from concept through production release. This individual will provide design support to product and design engineers for optimum, cost-effective solutions. This individual may be required to work under direct supervision on product development project and tasks of limited scope to deliver solutions on schedule for high volume, high mix manufacturing.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support development of solutions under direct supervision.
  • Work with internal Product Design, QA, Reliability, Supply chain and external suppliers to develop, apply and qualify the appropriate technologies and assembly processes, with focus on cost, high volume manufacturability, yield and quality.
  • Work with Design, Program Management and Material Planning under direct supervision to establish Engineering Build Requirements for new product introductions.
  • Work with internal engineering resources to update design rules.
  • Provide support to project engineers and technical leads to implement robust assembly processes internally and at contract manufacturers.
  • Working with Quality organization under direct supervision, support the characterization of failure modes and analyze as a function of materials and processes. Support troubleshooting and implement solutions.
  • Design/Develop tooling of limited complexity for a range of assembly processes.

Qualifications:

  • MS or BS in Materials Science, EE or ME.
  • Conceptual knowledge of product characterization, testing, quality and reliability, including compliance testing and certification [JEDEC, IPC, EIA, RoHS, WEEE, Mil-Standards].
  • Interest in design/development/characterization activities from concept to implementation.
  • Interest in working with high volume and mixed volume manufacturing operations.
  • Conceptual knowledge of process troubleshooting, failure analysis and Six Sigma methodologies (Process mapping, C&E, PFMEA, DOE, SPC).
  • Ability to work under direct supervision on tasks and projects of limited complexity.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-task ownership mode.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Able to present ideas, design concepts, data and plans with relative confidence to direct supervisor or team lead.
  • Good teamwork skills in working together to achieve goals.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Solidworks is desired.
  • Experience with solving steady state and dynamic thermal and mechanical problems, using finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software is a plus.
  • Experience using Minitab is a plus.
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office products.
  • Domestic travel required.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • US citizen or permanent resident required.
