McLean Hospital is seeking to fill a part-time staff psychologist position in the Alcohol, Drug and Addiction Treatment Program (ADATP). Located on McLean Hospital's main campus in Belmont, Massachusetts, the ADATP Clinic provides individual, couple's and group psychotherapy services for adults who have substance use disorders. Experience assessing for and treating substance use disorders using evidence-based assessments and interventions is preferred. Experience in the assessment and evidence-based treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder is preferred, but not required.

The McLean ADATP is an interdisciplinary treatment program. This highly collaborative team is embedded within all elements of the hospital mission, including teaching, clinical and research missions. Opportunities to be involved in teaching and research, including publications and presentations will be available.

By meeting HMS teaching responsibilities, the candidate will be proposed for a concurrent academic appointment as an Instructor in Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program, have completed an APA-accredited internship, and be licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Psychologist HSP in the state of Massachusetts. Qualified individuals will have experience using assessment tools and treatment interventions for substance use disorders.

General Summary:

Provide time-limited evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders among adults. Collaborate and participate in peer consultation with a multidisciplinary team of addiction treatment providers and experts. Conduct diagnostic interviews and provide timely case conceptualization, patient feedback and treatment recommendations.

This person will have the responsibility to provide clinical services for assigned patients, as well as to participate in the activities of the Outpatient ADATP Clinic. This person may also have opportunities to participate in hospital community service, research and teaching as indicated by interests, training, and experience.

  • Provides clinical services including individual and group psychotherapy.
  • Documents in the record by the completion of treatment plans, patient encounter forms, appropriate progress notes, clinical summaries and other documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Serves as liaison to other health care professionals including mental health practitioners, medication providers, OTC team members, and others.
  • Participates in program and hospital administrative activities (e.g. staff meetings, peer consultation, hospital committees, etc.)
  • Maintains awareness of medicolegal/risk management issues.
  • Participates in the hospital teaching and research efforts.

Qualifications Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D degree in psychology from an accredited school of psychology.

Licensure appropriate to clinical discipline.

All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.


Required to complete electronic medical records training, and demonstrate 80% accuracy on competency test within 30 days of hire.
