GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed.

The Fitness and Activity Coordinator plans and implements specialized fitness and activity groups and individualized instruction that are tailored to meet the needs of various patient populations according to age and functional capacity. The Coordinator also provides fitness support to employees through scheduled yoga and fitness center times. The Fitness & Activities Coordinator will work closely to develop and implement new fitness program initiatives and funding opportunities, by collaborating with Department heads as well as Division Chiefs of the Hospital.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.

1. Designs and implements fitness and activity programs that meet the needs and functional requirements of various patient groups including adolescents, adults, and older adults. This includes the assessment of functional capacity of any individuals participating in new or existing programs.

2. Designs and implements an orientation and tracking program in order that participants receive training prior to using any cardiovascular and strength training equipment and have the required medical clearance.

3. Orients nursing staff and other patient care staff to use the fitness center for patients in the Coordinator's absence.

4. Enlists participants through effective communication and promotion of activities to various clinical programs.

5. Communicates urgent/significant clinical changes in patient behavior to responsible clinicians.

6. Maintains flexible program content to meet the needs of a broad range of patient functional capacities.

7. Monitors the fitness and gym schedule to provide maximum access.

8. Modifies programs and activities based on staff and patient feedback. Recommends purchase of additional equipment to keep fitness programs current and fresh.

9. Maintains fitness equipment in conjunction with service contracts.

10. Ensures that the fitness environment complies with health and safety regulations.

11. Maintains updated CPI, CPR and First Aid Training.

12. Demonstrates advancement in professional development through involvement in professional activities, educational programs, or advance certification.

13. Conducts yoga sessions for patients and employees.

14. Works with employees to develop fitness plans, collects money and deposits with the cashier.

15. Maintains monthly statistics and produces an annual report that includes statistics, major accomplishments, and summarizes patient satisfaction through the patient satisfaction surveys.

* Demonstrated initiative to solve fitness center operational issues.

* Ability to develop and set up new fitness/corporate initiatives and services as defined by Hospital leadership.

* Proven ability to deliver high quality fitness customer service.

* Ability to develop and implement fitness operations, policies, and procedures as outlined by Department Head.

* Proficiency with standard word-processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, presentation

* Professional, enthusiastic attitude, team player.

* Ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks and to function well under pressure.

Required to work closely with patients in a physical education capacity and environment.

None.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Indicate financial "scope" information, i.e.: size of budget, volume, revenue, etc.

Must make recommendations for budget and programming preparation.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.)

* B.A., B.S. Required, in Recreation, Physical Education or Related Field.

* 3-5 years fitness management experience, Preferred.

* Professional Certification (ACSM, ACE or similar) Required.

* CPR and First Aid Certification Required.

* 2 years experience working with patients within a mental health treatment setting Preferred.

* Yoga training is required.

* Must possess exceptional communication and people skills.
