Job Description
The Terminal Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the New Bedford Terminal. This includes reviewing all activities to date and recommending long term strategies and solutions for a Marine Terminal Start Up. This position is responsible for the general terminal and freight operations including but not limited to security, inventory tracking, collection and reporting of data to billing department, pricing, contracting and potential services to offer. Essential Functions: * Manages multiple employees and shifts ensuring a safe and productive work environment. * Oversees all domestic and foreign terminal operations as required. * Oversees management of the Port, vessel, and trucking operations. * Ensures a smooth and consistent operation ensuring cargo and supplies are located and distributed accurately in an effective and efficient manner as needed to satisfy internal and external customer requirements. * Assists in business development and sales activities. * Creates work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow. * Ensure all staff are properly trained and certified prior to operating any equipment. * Ensures that all administrative procedures are followed and reports are completed accurately, submitted on time and to appropriate staff, customers and other designated personnel. * Responsible for all facility safety and environmental issues. Conducts safety meetings, completes hazard identification, job safety analysis, incident and injury investigations as required. * Responsible for directing the pre-plan, calling out longshoremen labor for vessel loading and unloading, execution and supervision off all aspects of cargo handling, to achieve a safe, efficient, and profitable operation in a Marine/Stevedoring terminal capacity. * Ensures correct vessel loading and meets loading deadlines safely and efficiently. * Acts as incident commander in the event of an emergency * Provides extensive communication with Foss Offshore Wind, subcontractors, customers and Shipping Agents on a daily basis. * Maintaining quality results by following export standards, procedures and regulations. * Assists in the development of and operates within approved fiscal budget limits. * Performs special duties and other projects as assigned. * Adheres to all company policies. * Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested. Supervisory and Leadership of Direct Staff * Be a leader for "SpeakUp", including encouraging peers and staff to exhibit a safe and ethical culture. * Responsible for all matters of employment including recruiting, training, development, promotion, discipline and termination. * Understands and complies with Company policies and procedures, including EEO, Non-Discrimination, Harassment, and Saltchuk Code of Ethical Business Conduct. * Effectively communicates function and/or regional goals and objectives. * Provides direction and leadership to achieve company Core Values, Mission and Safety Vision. * Lead and manage department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives. * Processes performance evaluations in a timely, effective and fair manner. * Directs, motivates and develops employees for maximum performance. * Establishes goals, monitors progress and results of direct reports. * Addresses inter- and intra-department training needs and counseling, as needed. * Performs special duties and other projects as assigned. * Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested. Knowledge of: * Familiarity will all regulatory requirements for running terminal operation, including security, and fueling. * Experience with systems such as Microsoft Office products. Skills and Abilities: * Sound organizational, records management, time management skills, and attention to detail. * Good interpersonal and customer service skills, well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work both as an individual contributor and a team member. * The ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities and meet assigned deadlines. * Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, as well as to accept direction on given assignments. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business management, maritime, or related degree. At least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in operations management positions, including terminal operations.
