Tufts Medicine Lowell General Hospital is seeking a full-time Emergency Medical Technician.

Job Overview

The EMT I is a clinically oriented individual who participates in medical treatments, case management, and program development. Directs patient care contact in the prehospital setting, Emergency department, hospital patient care units, and during ambulance transport. Accepts patient care directives/orders from hospital physicians, nursing staff, and EMS leadership. Cares for patients and conducts clinically appropriate patient care and ambulance transport in accordance with established hospital policies and Massachusetts Statewide Treatment Protocols.

Hours: 40 hours a week, various shifts including days, evenings, and overnight. Rotating every other weekend and holidays.

Location: Main Campus

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Completion of accredited Emergency Medical Technical program.

2. National Registered EMT (NREMT).

3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

4. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

5. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

6. State issued driver's license.

7. One (1) year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Associate's degree.

2. BLS, ACLS, PALS Instructor.

3. Emergency Medical Tech (EMT) Advanced certificate.

4. Incident Command System (ICS) course 200 or 300.

5. Three (3) years of relevant experience.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Responds to a wide range of transport situations. Responds to patient's urgent care needs and interfaces with appropriate clinicians in the patient's home with the goal of avoiding unnecessary hospitalization.

2. Performs detailed assessments, diagnostic tests, administers treatments, monitors infusions, and makes recommendations for patient's care and treatment with on-line medical direction Obtains medical history and monitors vital signs during patient contact. Completes clinically accurate patient care documentation.

3. Prepares patients for transport and clinically monitors patient to maintain stability.

4. Administers skilled care to patients being transported between hospitals as directed by nursing staff and physician.

5. May participate in creating care plans with patient's physicians, including referrals to other care providers.

6. Complies with all health, safety, and privacy regulations.

7. Routinely accesses and utilizes hospital EMS leadership for any circumstance where advanced direction is needed or may assist with proper execution of job responsibilities

8. Complies with performance improvement clinical benchmarks.

9. May perform home visits (scheduled, unscheduled, urgent), assessments and treatments according to MIH protocols and procedures.

10. Complete patient charts using medical record software (EPIC)

11. Follows on line medical control direction and protocols for every visit.

12. Demonstrates effective and positive teamwork and initiative during EMS operations, within the department and the EMS community.

13. Works collaboratively and in a professional manner with all physicians, referring providers, allied health and public safety personnel.

14. Participates in the discharge planning process of selected patients on inpatient units and in emergency department.
