The Opportunity: We are seeking a passionate and process-oriented Design Associate, Architecture with the drive and experience to oversee and elevate our projects globally. This position will possess strategic insight, as well as exceptional leadership skills, creative thinking abilities and a process-driven approach to producing quality designs that meet each unique market need and achieve common goals throughout the organization. The Design Associate, Architecture will serve as one of Southworth's key communicators and will be responsible for the full breadth of our design activities, requiring an entrepreneurial spirit, innovative approach, and a proven track-record of quality results. This will be a hybrid position, with approximately 60% of your time working remotely, and 40% working collaboratively in the office.

Duties and Functions:

  • Work on all designs for residential product types, clubhouses, restaurants, marinas, and commercial spaces.
  • Responsible for third-party relationships with design professionals, from concept through Construction Documents, on assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Director of Planning and Design to improve the design process through in-house production and alteration of plans for internal use and customer-facing products.
  • Collaborate closely with third-party design professionals to ensure appropriate designs are used, maintaining the highest level of quality and adhering to the specified expense levels directed by the Corporate Director of Planning and Design.
  • Embed with design professionals and work on a wide range of design projects from macro to micro scales, with the constant intention of creating a sense of place for each of Southworth's unique properties.
  • Represent Southworth and consistently communicate Southworth Club's Vision and Core Values: Deliver Extraordinary, Build Community, Dare to Be Different, and Play to Win.
  • Provide timely and accurate feedback on active design projects to ensure standards are met regarding the style, quality, and character of each project's design.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualification Standards:

  • Bachelors in Architecture or a design related field preferred but will consider prior work experience in a related field.
  • Proficiency required in Adobe Creative suite, Sketchup, Lumion, CAD and Revit.
  • Strong graphic / digital presentation abilities and ability to communicate effectively in technical project presentations verbally and in writing.
  • Development of Architectural design concepts; selection of materials and digital presentation.
  • Participate in conceptual design development activities, including making adaptations and modifications.
  • Ability to effectively research materials, codes/specifications as they relate to planning solutions; recommend appropriate selections.
  • Create and prepare Architectural floor plans, schedules, and details.
  • Develop project budgets, change orders and maintain project records.
  • Participate in construction administration, assisting in review of submittals and samples.
  • Work directly with customers to secure approval on residential construction selections and options, including attending customer meetings.
  • Ability to manage junior level staff by delegating tasks to effectively complete projects.
