The Ophthalmic Technician II:

  • Performs basic eye examinations under the supervision of an ophthalmologist. This includes; brief medical history, age-appropriate visual acuity, lensometry, tonometry, and instillation of eye drops.

  • Serves as member of multidisciplinary team to facilitate patient visits and collaborates with clinical staff to ensure efficient clinical flow.

  • Ensures the clinical environment is well-stocked, well-maintained, and compliant with hospital safety guidelines.

  • Performs clinical room preparation and supply ordering as needed.

  • Keeps informed of Joint Commission patient safety goals.

  • Assists department with compliance and works within departmental and hospital standards.

  • Assists in explaining treatments or procedures to patients and their families.

  • Ensures that educational materials are created and available as assigned

To qualify, you must have:

  • High School Diploma / GED required

  • Current registration as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA certification) required

  • 2 years of experience as an ophthalmic technician or equivalent required

  • Experience in pediatric ophthalmology preferred
