Team / division overview

US Insurance/Solutions is part of DWS's global institutional coverage and are dedicated to creating asset management solutions to increase the asset base managed on behalf of US based insurance companies. The team will lead relationships with the DWS Insurance clients and support across the full spectrum of investment strategies including Real Assets (both liquid and private), Fixed Income/Alternative Credit, custom Passive Solutions and ETFs.

Role Details

As a Senior Relationship Manager for Insurance, you will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating the conversations with the client and internal stakeholders regarding accounting, tax implications, capital requirements, state limitations and solvency limitations regarding their investment

  • Develop and execute a business development and relationship management strategy amongst Insurance clients across the US region

  • Assist/Lead Insurance Coverage Team in the identification and education of significant insurance industry developments for both clients and prospects across regulation, accounting, tax, and investments.

    • Analyze insurance industry, sector, and investment need trends

    • Identify and exploit regulatory developments and issues

    • Facilitate conversations/collaborations with insurance clients/prospects and internal colleagues regarding regulatory, solvency, accounting and tax issues.

    • Interpret and discuss U.S. State insurance investment codes; maintain written State investment code summaries; work with individual State Insurance Departments as necessary, including the use of derivatives for hedging and non-hedging purposes.

    • Serve as a liaison for investment, accounting and regulatory matters to strengthen client and prospect relationships

    • Prepare summaries of key regulatory and accounting developments for internal colleagues

  • Collaborate extensively with internal colleagues (e.g. portfolio management, relationship management, new business development, product/structuring management, client reporting specialists) to achieve common goals.

    • Evaluate regulatory, accounting and tax impacts to support relationship management, product, compliance and legal teams in the development and marketing of DWS products for insurance companies.

    • Assist in developing and communicating custom performance benchmarks and investment policy statements (IPS) including investment guidelines for insurance investors who have regulatory, solvency, accounting and tax constraints

  • Industry surveillance: Monitor news and industry sources for events and trends related to investing for insurance companies

  • Contribute to the creation and interpretation of peer insurer analysis.

    • Establish profiles of relevant insurance sector investment needs and analyze individual clients' parameter values.

  • Author whitepaper on accounting, regulatory, tax or investment issues related to insurance companies and pension plans at least annually.

  • Insurance industry event public speaking/presentations

We are looking for:

  • Proven experience with a track record in sales or client servicing within Institutional clients with a specific focus on Insurance, and a developed network and access to decision makers on the client side

  • No less than 7-10 years of relevant professional experience with an employer of the insurance, finance or public accounting industry, or a regulated pension provider.

  • Strong knowledge of insurance concepts (e.g. operations and marketplace) across property and casualty, life, health and reinsurance sectors.

  • Strong knowledge of operating frameworks of U.S. insurers. In particular, regulatory and accounting frameworks.

  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, precedents, government regulations and agency rules.

  • Familiarity or experience with U.S. State insurance investment codes, National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), A.M. Best / Best's Capital Adequacy Relativity (BCAR) and Solvency II.

  • Proven experience with various capital models and solvency requirements for U.S. and non-U.S. insurance and reinsurance companies.

  • Substantial knowledge of U.S. GAAP and STAT related to investments; knowledge of US insurance statutory investment accounting and IFRS desirable.

  • Knowledge of modern portfolio theory, liability driven investments and vehicles for corporate pension investments.

  • Understanding of and experience with derivatives and use of derivatives for hedging purposes.

  • Client orientation: Must be a self-motivated, positive team player who manages time efficiently, remains focused on driving projects to successful completion and expresses willingness to take on more responsibility.

  • Detail-orientation: Must have an analytical mindset with a structured approach to delivering key insights through intellectual curiosity, research capabilities, problem solving and strategic thinking.

  • Excellent command of English, presentation skills and public speaking. Ability to understand all investment nuances; translate complex investment strategies into an investor-friendly format.

  • Systems & Technology:

    • Professional handling of common MS Office programs, especially Excel (VBA)

    • Experience with BondEdge, Bloomberg, Salesforce

    • Familiarity or experience with BlackRock Aladdin preferred

    • Programming skills, ideally in Python and / or Matlab

License/Designation(s) :

  • Required: Finra licenses 7/6, 63/66

  • Preferred: CPA, CFA, CPCU

The salary range for this position in New York City is $153,000 to $273,000. Actual salaries may be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education and other qualifications. Posted salary ranges do not include incentive compensation or any other type of renumeration
