We have an exciting opportunity for a Tax Manager in our Boston office. The Tax Manager will report directly to the Tax Director. They will play a critical role in ensuring compliance and optimizing tax strategies across Cabot's investment portfolio. The successful candidate will participate as a key team member in a broad range of tax responsibilities that will include the review and execution of federal, state, and local tax compliance tasks. This individual will collaborate with multiple groups within the company, including the Investment, Asset Management, Investor Relations, Legal, Accounting, Treasury, and Capital Market teams.

Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Have a primary understanding of all investments across multiple fund structures and the associated tax sensitivities for each, including domestic and international aspects (UK/Europe/APAC).
  • Coordinate with fund accountants and external service providers to facilitate the preparation and review of all federal, state, and local tax return filings.
  • Provide support to external tax preparers in preparing and reviewing tax return workpapers, partner tax allocations, estimates, and projections.
  • Monitor and track domestic and international tax compliance obligations and filings.
  • Review quarterly tax projections, including foreign and state withholding, and estimated payments
  • Manage Federal/State/Local audit and notice responses
  • Proactively identify areas for tax compliance improvement and staying abreast of tax law changes.
  • Assist with administration of REIT entities, including quarterly and year-end REIT tests.
  • Aid transfer pricing studies and other ad-hoc projects where necessary
  • Work with internal teams (tax, legal, asset/property management, acquisition/investment) to support tax due diligence projects, such as tax structuring of acquisitions and dispositions and investor requests
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors on complex tax issues and optimizing tax strategies.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, including strong academic performance
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent required
  • 5+ years of experience in public accounting and/or in the real estate private equity sector
  • Ability to effectively articulate tax concepts and related concerns to non-tax professionals
  • Ability to proactively manage deadlines
  • High intellectual curiosity and a voracious desire to learn
  • Experience with REITs and private equity fund structures
  • Thorough with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated initiative.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Physical/Mental/Visual Demands and Work Environment:

  • The job is conducted in an office work environment, sitting most of the time and using a computer approximately 90% for this position's duties
  • Infrequent travel to regional offices
