The Opportunity


Mass General Brigham's Investment Office manages more than $20 billion for MGB, invested primarily via partnerships with third-party investment management firms. Strategies in the portfolio include private equity, venture capital, long-only equities, long/short equities, and real assets investments. The Investment Office offers a collaborative, team-oriented environment. We strive to be nimble in our pursuit of exceptional investment opportunities, as well as our support of world-class investment partners. This is a hybrid position based in Boston/Somerville, MA.

The Investment Office seeks a highly motivated professional to provide analytical, operations, and technology support. The analyst will be a key part of the investment operations team that supports externally managed investment portfolios and is responsible for a blend of investment operations and technology initiatives. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of academic achievement, success working in a team environment to achieve common goals, and familiarity with the workings of an investment office of an institution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and drive process improvements in areas of performance reporting, portfolio accounting, and interactions with custodian.
  • Work with investment team to improve utilization and utility of report output.
  • Private Equity Operations: Process capital calls and distributions of private equity funds, interact with investment custodian regarding activity, cash movements, and valuations. Track activity valuations and returns in third party software, Private i.
  • Annual Audit Support: Assist auditors, both internal and external, during periodic reviews of processes and investment pool balances and/or data.
  • Performance Reporting: Validation of, and reporting on, the monthly and periodic returns for the investment managers, asset classes, pools, groups, and benchmarks related to Partners' investments.
  • Affiliate Reporting: Validation of, and reporting on, the valuation of Mass General Brigham investments, with respect to the ownership of the investments by Mass General Brigham affiliates.
  • Net Market Exposure Reporting: Portfolio exposure reporting, including market capitalization, industry sector, geography, etc. Administration of data warehouse, including preparation/upload of monthly data files, setup of new portfolios and members, continuous learning to make best use of warehouse, etc.
  • Liquidity and Rebalancing: Timely and accurate execution of inter-pool fund transfers. Provide pro forma cash allocation reporting based on expected funding.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required; Master's Degree in a related field a plus.
  • 3+ years of endowment/foundation investment office experience, in areas of performance reporting, cash management, and operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects and workflows across teams.
  • Strong Excel skills required, including report creation, charting, pivot tables, and macros.
  • Strong data handling skills required; SQL, Access, etc. a plus.
  • Financial skills; educational and/or professional experience dealing with financial issues with an investment context, such as valuations, rates of return, and investment vehicles.
  • Willingness and aptitude to learn a range of technologies: Advent Tamale, Burgiss Private I, Caissa, eVestment, various analytics and risk management tools.
