The Vertex Co-op Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. Job Summary:

The Integrated Pharmacology Department is seeking a highly motivated Co-op to join our research team in Boston, MA. The successful candidate will conduct translational, human disease-relevant cellular assays supporting drug discovery to address the underlying cause of serious life-threatening diseases. The candidate will gain valuable pharmaceutical industry experience working on challenging projects driving the next generation of medicines. Our team supports small molecule lead optimization for all disease areas in the Vertex drug discovery portfolio at our Boston Research site.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will perform cellular assays to support drug discovery within a highly collaborative matrixed team of scientists across functional areas maximizing exposure to different areas of the organization.

The candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience with automation and high throughput cell-based assays (i.e. RT-qPCR, high content imaging, fluorescent/luminescent assays). The candidate will also perform associated data analyses and data reporting, while ensuring data integrity and compliance under Vertex policies. In addition, the individual will be able to present their scientific data to the team, further developing their presentation skills.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled at the sophomore level or higher (undergraduate) or graduate level in a scientific field
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written); motivated, organized, and eager to learn
  • Ability to work independently after the appropriate training by Vertex scientists
  • Basic laboratory skills (pipetting) and in vitro cellular assay experience preferred
  • Computer literacy: MS Office
  • Adept in troubleshooting and solving complex problems
  • A desire to be part of a highly innovative company aimed at transforming the lives of people with serious diseases, their families and society
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before December 2024
  • Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from July 10, 2024 - December 20, 2024
