General Summary/ Overview Statement

The Research Assistant (RA) will support various projects within the Program in Sleep Medicine Epidemiology and Sleep and Cardiovascular Medicine within the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Brigham and Women's Hospital. The RA will work under the general supervision of the Project Manager and Principal Investigator, and following established policies and procedures for research studies, will assist with a variety of activities: recruiting and evaluating eligibility of individuals for participation in research and clinical trials of sleep disorders; obtaining informed consent, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met; collecting and organizing subject data; scheduling participants for study visits, performing clinical research tests; assists with data processing and helps maintain databases and performs data entry; assists with communications to study participants and investigators.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assists with research study and clinical trials activities as per study guidelines and protocols.

2. Recruits and evaluates potential human research participants for eligibility to research studies and clinical trials. May be required to review patient information, interface with physicians and health centers, perform interviews, and assemble packets for mailing to potential or active study participants.

3. Obtains informed consent consistent with regulatory requirements.

4. May be required to schedule participants for study visits and assist patients with completing visit surveys and questionnaires.

5. Interacts with human research participants to provide education about research studies, procedural instructions, follow up, and adherence to study protocol. May serve as liaison between subject and investigator.

6. Responsible for collecting data and maintaining human research participants' records for various studies. This may include data entry, performing minor analysis of data, and presenting reports.

7. Assists with curating information from electronic health records and other sources such as sleep studies and questionnaires/surveys.

8. Manages study equipment inventory and supplies, and study databases (e.g., REDCap).

9. Assists with storage, inventory, and shipping/receiving of biologic specimens and -80 freezer inventory.

10. In concert with the manager and project leader, develops and implements participant recruitment strategies.

11. May assist in training and orientation of new staff/students.

Performs all other duties, as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications

BS or BA degree required.

New graduate with relevant course or project work.

One year of experience preferred.

Working knowledge and proficiency with the following computer software preferred: Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and REDCap.

Skills/ Abilities/ Competencies Required

Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.

Good oral and written communication skills.

General computer knowledge (e.g., data entry, MS Windows)

Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.

Careful attention to detail.

Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect when interacting with research subjects and staff.

Spanish language skills preferred.

Experience working with individuals from a wide range of experiences is preferred.

Working Conditions

Work can be performed remotely or in a hybrid role. Recruitment activities can take place in a clinic, sleep laboratory, or other setting. Occasional intense periods of work can be associated with scientific deadlines. Evening work may be required for this position.
