We are seeking a Program Director/Program Leader to lead McLean's new Child Partial Hospital Program (CPHP)--a unique new program that will provide evidence-based clinical care to children ages 7-13 years struggling with irritability, suicide, and self-injury. This program will be a collaboratory between best current clinical care and novel research. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children and families struggling with mental illness/health, is a collaborative team leader, and is excited to learn with other professionals as part of the McLean/MGB environment.
The Program Director is responsible for all activities of the program, in coordination with the Medical Director. Program Director will assure that all clinical activities are evidenced based and meet or exceed community standards. Responsible for the development and implementation of all general, emergency, and program-specific personnel policies and procedures necessary to ensure a safe, productive and therapeutic program. Ensures that all policies and procedures are designed to comply with standards set by the hospital and regulatory and accrediting agencies.
The Program Director must be knowledgeable about the clinical disorders the program treats, all emergency procedures; skilled in training and orienting staff as well as staff supervision and performance management.
Program Director must work to maintain a clean, safe environment for clients.
Specific Responsibilities/Tasks
A. Development of the Program's treatment philosophy, working closely with the Medical Director, and operational policy and procedures.
B. Supervision and Management
The Program Director works closely with the Medical Director and others as indicated below.
1 Directly supervises positions such as Administrative Assistant/Secretary, Clinicians/Case Managers, direct care and house staff to ensure that all clients are provided with effective programs that enhance their self sufficiency, empowerment, and inclusion. Works closely with Medical Staff and coordinates with the appropriate department heads of McLean Hospital in completing work performance evaluations for these positions and in managing any performance related issues or problems.
2 Oversees the business management and clerical functions with the Administrative Assistant/Secretary. Is responsible for overseeing implementation of payroll systems, patient accounts, accounts payable, petty cash, and purchases for the program. Monitors expenses, revenues and allocation of resources.
3 Assists in development of budgets for projected fiscal year in collaboration with the fiscal department of McLean Hospital.
4 Chairs staff meetings and management meetings to ensure that communication systems are in place such that all staff are adequately apprised of all pertinent information. Routinely attends clinical rounds, and other clinical meetings to ensure the delivery of quality services.
5 Notifies appropriate individuals about problems relating to policy and procedures, physical environment, ethics, and community relations.
6 Develops and maintains a good rapport with referral resources, keeping them informed of critical concerns in a timely fashion.
7 Generates reports that include weekly status updates of admissions, discharges, census, and other information germane to the running of the program.
8 Works closely with the McLean Director of Quality Improvement to ensure that all QI functions are implemented by staff in a timely manner and reports are presented to QI Committee.
9 Responsible for development of all program-specific policy and procedures in coordination with other McLean staff. Ensures ongoing staff orientation and education regarding policy and procedures, for existing as well as newly hired staff.
10 Develops program policies and intervention systems to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for clients. Ensures staff training in these procedures to ensure implementation of appropriate behavioral programming and data collection. Provides assessment of staff skills and interventions using clinical outcome data.
11 With Medical Director, supervises overall clinical treatment programs and discharge planning.
12 Responsible for participation in monthly administrator on call supports.

Education:
Advanced degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Nursing.
Skills:
Experience and enjoyment working with children and families struggling with mental illness.
Experience and enjoyment working with, and leading, multi-disciplinary teams.
Entrepreneurial, self-starter with good managerial skills and ability to work independently. Must possess a range of individual and group therapy skills and have experience with population to be worked with as well as familiarity with current scientific advances in the field.
To accomplish these tasks, the Program Director must be able to communicate clearly in both written and oral English with supervisors, peers, clients and families. Must have the mental ability to observe and analyze behaviors, assess/evaluate behaviors and situations, communicate with staff, clients, Hospital's executive staff, and representatives of external agencies. Must have clinical expertise to ensure that clients receive effective and appropriate treatment. Familiarity with MA DMH regulations and guidelines preferred.
Must have sufficient skill and ability to manage the daily business functions of the program as well as budget development and oversight. Must have sufficient competence with computer applications to effectively learn and utilize specific clinical and business applications used by the organization including PeopleSoft, Kronos, Business Objects Planning.
May require some lifting or bending. The workload is at a stressful pace, and irregular or extended hours may be necessary to ensure a safe/therapeutic staffing pattern. Energy level must be sufficient to accomplish tasks under stress, maintain appropriate professional demeanor and maintain safety when interacting with clients.
