Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Business Development Manager based in our Boston office.

Responsibilities

The Objective: As the Senior Business Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in telling our Life Sciences story, developing effective go-to-market strategies, supporting client development and creating and executing distinctive thought leadership campaigns that convey our value proposition to Life Sciences and HealthTech clients and markets.

What will I do? You will be a strategic partner to our Life Sciences attorneys, collaborating with larger teams in Sales, Communications/Brand, Client Relationship, Events, Pitch and Proposals, Research, Knowledge Management and Innovation.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong track record of aligning business development and marketing activities to sector and client strategies and be skilled in strategic pitching support, campaign planning and stakeholder management. You will also be responsible for high-quality content marketing, synthesizing market and company research, directory and award submissions, and social media promotion.

How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:

    Strategic Planning, Coordination and Reporting
  • Development of strategic marketing plans to support the execution of Life Sciences OKRs, ensuring alignment with firm and sector goals.
  • Provide support to the Life Sciences Practice and Sector Leaders, including data analysis to inform decision-making.
  • Coordinate and lead regular working group sector meetings to share market trends and insights, and drive lead generation activities.
  1. Campaigns and Projects
  • Identify, project manage and contribute to Life Sciences campaigns and thought leadership initiatives to further develop our brand, visibility and reputation.
  • Take ownership and lead special Life Sciences projects from conception to completion, ensuring that they are delivered on time, goals are met, within budget, and to the highest standards.
  1. Pitch Support and Execution
  • Assist with pitch materials, presentations and responses to RFPs, assist attorneys with presentations and content drafting.
  • Support and coach Life Science Partners with strategic in-person or virtual pitches guiding through our best practice approach.
  • Ensure the communication of distinctive value propositions for Life Science capabilities.
  • Collect and maintain attorney experience and client information in Orrick's experience database, O(ex) and client relationship system, R(ex).
  1. Research and Market insights:
  • Working with Business Intelligence, identify market trends, competitor strategies and client needs.
  • Formulate plans to target new clients and generation of new work from existing clients.
  1. Communication
  • Effectively work with cross functional team to build digital presence by coordinating the execution of sector focused content that conveys Orrick's Life Sciences story.
  • Work closely with Life Sciences attorneys to draft/edit LinkedIn posts.
  • Effectively communicate sector strategy and story across the firm.
  • Manage Life Sciences events, directory and award submissions, and sponsorships.
  • Attend (as appropriate) conferences, seminars and networking events with lawyers.
  1. Budget management:
  • Manage the annual Life Sciences Business Development budgeting process.
  • Assist in the oversight and management of spend requests, spend tracking and measurement of ROI on BD activities.

  • Proven experience leading teams, ideally within a professional services environment, or equivalent high-performing organization.
  • Integrity, tact, and professionalism in dealing with sensitive information and maintaining client confidence.
  • Absolute trustworthiness, confidentiality, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated superb, consistent judgement.
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate needs, identify opportunities, and drive initiatives to completion. Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Life Sciences experience strongly preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between $139,000.00 to $190,000.00

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
