Job Description
Overview

The Department of Neuroscience is a basic science department that focuses on cutting-edge research in the areas of synapse development and function, sensory systems, and complex behavior, cognitive neuroscience, and behavioral neurobiology. The Bygrave lab is supported by funding from the federal government as well as university funds. The faculty within the department is also extensively involved with the Graduate School of Biomedical Science Program in Neuroscience as well as teaching within the medical school.

What You'll Do

Under close supervision of Principal Investigator, the candidate in this role would conduct a variety of experiments to evaluate mechanisms of synapse function and strategies to improve genetic targeting of specific populations of neurons. There are three primary roles for this position: 1) support the running of the lab through making solutions and ordering reagents and supplies, 2) stereotaxic surgery of viral vectors and immunohistochemistry to evaluate expression profiles, and 3) computational analyses to predict identify protein-protein interactions and to support the development of image analysis pipelines. Having prior experiences in any of the following is a plus (but not a prerequisite) for the position: biochemistry, molecular biology, use of AlphaFold for protein structure predictions, coding proficiency to build analysis pipelines. More information about the Bygrave lab can be found here: https://www.bygravelab.com/home
