General/Position Summary

Vertex is seeking an experienced senior accounting professional to join our Controllership organization leading the revenue accounting for the Company's Pain product(s). Vertex is preparing for the potential launch and commercialization of an investigational novel selective inhibitor of NaV1.8 in acute pain. Reporting to the Executive Director of Global Revenue Accounting, the Director of Revenue Accounting, US will have responsibility for operational oversight of order to cash processes and financial reporting as well as gross to net accrual policies, estimates and controls. The Director of Revenue Accounting, US will lead the revenue accounting function for the Company's pain product (s). This position is based in our Boston, MA office, located in the Seaport area. This role requires a hybrid work schedule: 3 days in office & 2 days remote on a weekly basis.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead launch readiness activities for order to cash transactions; Develop and implement processes with third party service provider with a focus on accounts receivable management and monthly close reporting for sales, credits, receivable transactions

• Lead development of transaction reporting in support of accounting processes; designing requirements including leveraging automation tools already in place

• Partner closely with market access and trade and distribution teams to establish processes as well as internal review over transaction reporting

• Partner with market access team on payer contracting and other gross to net estimates to develop accrual policies and models in support of accounting monthly close

• Collaborate with commercial finance and market access on monthly actualization and forecasting process

• Design and implement monthly close process at time of product launch; Lead monthly close and oversee work of other team members in support of monthly close

• Lead the design and documentation of SOX controls relating to order to cash and revenue accounting close; post launch oversee and ensure operational effectiveness of controls as well as ensure documentation requirements are met

• Collaborate across global revenue accounting team in support of achieving launch readiness for Pain product(s) ; including revenue technical accounting team and revenue accounting team supporting the Company's Cystic Fibrosis products

Required Education Level
Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting

Required Experience
Typically requires 8-10 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry or the equivalent combination of education and experience; prior experience in Big 4 accounting firm preferred.

Required Knowledge/Skills

• Experience in pharmaceutical industry; prior experience accounting for complex gross to net estimates preferred

• Strong skills demonstrated in MS Office and financial software applications, including Oracle EBS and Hyperion

• Proven leadership expertise and organizational skills to manage a team as well as business partners and other stakeholders

• Proven ability to lead and develop accounting processes in support of commercial product launches

• Proactively promotes process improvement mindset aimed at building scalable and efficient processes

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills necessary for leading team members, working cross functionally and presenting to senior management ( including accounting, finance and commercial management )
